Headed to the Airport to leave Haiti

We are all well and headed to the airport to start the long trip home. We ended up having $3,746.00 to donate at the end of the trip. We split the money evenly to three different projects here: scholarships for elementary students in Furcy, scholarships for senior high students in Furcy, and a fund to support healthcare and other needs of the Methodist Guesthouse Haitian staff. Many thanks to all who supported this mission trip!

Port au Prince Condition

The Palace and many other buildings in Port au Prince are still in the same condition as right after the
earthquake. The massive tent cities are down to a population estimated to be half a million. Last year when I was here in April they were estimated to contain 600,000 people. More of the damaged buildings have been taken down since our last trip here.

Heading back to Port au Prince

We said our goodbyes and hiked out of Furcy to get to our vehicles. It was good to get our project done and start to head home. This team picture is of an overlook with a view over Port au Prince.

Our last time with the kids this trip

Our time with Haitian kids has been precious. We spent one last hour with them after finishing our part of the work projects. The money we raised for the project will keep Haitians working here in Furcy until the next team arrives.

Mark moving more dirt

Warm and sunny this morning as we are moving more dirt for the storage room behind the church. Both Keith and Julie took spills on on the steep slopes. Only small scrapes and bruises.

Our dining area

It is Thursday morning here and all are well. This photo is of our dining area. We are outside on top of a cistern. We have a fantastic view as we are on top of a very tall ridge with deep valleys on two sides. This will be our last work day in Furcy as we will head back to Port au Prince tomorrow.

We finished the foundation work at the cookhouse. We are now moving dirt for a storage room addition to their church. Brooks has a cold this morning, but we everyone else is fine.

Tuesday Morning Still Digging

We are all well and back at work Tuesday morning. We are enjoying the food which can be quite spicy. Even the peanut butter has pepper in it. The local pineapple is wonderful. Each evening we have a team meeting, devotion, singing, and prayer. Many of us are trying to learn more Kreole and French.
